Storm8 Gives Back to SJSU

image

“It’s important to know where you came from.”

Words have never rung more true for our amazing team of artist. As it turns out, many of our artists graduated from San Jose State University with specializations in illustration and animation. The time and dedication that was put into their education at SJSU was crucial in their development as maestros with a pen (and overall super cool people). But due to a disproportionate distribution of funding, the Art Department at SJSU had been faced with some arduous roadblocks in its efforts of even just maintaining its status among all of the other offered curriculums. Despite an outstanding rallying effort to reconcile this situation, the Shrunken Head Man club (the offshoot organization of the illustration and animation department) were looking toward an uncertain future.

What could we do to help our brothers in arms? Click below to read more about how we did our part!

With the department in jeopardy, many Storm8 artists rose to the occasion and adorned themselves with an artist’s sword and shield - a pen and tablet. This wasn’t just the former alumni either. Artists who had graduated from other schools answered the call to arms, as this was an issue that all artists, no matter where they went to school or came from, understood intimately. The SJSU Alumni took this to heart and made monetary donations to offer their support. Moved by their efforts, the co-founders at Storm8 offered to match the artists’ contributions, effectively doubling the total!

It’s pretty easy to be uncertain of your future when you’re in school, but it’s incredibly difficult to forget what sculpted you into what you are today. Though this plight was not theirs per se, it was quickly adopted by the artists as their own. After all, it was those beloved fundamental Illustrator classes that turned those students into the artists that are drawing the things in the games that our players love. And when you love something, it’s hard to forget it - but always easy to give back to it.
